Gothia 2024 (Players Accepted for the 2009 Squad) - IBFF/ÖIF

Due to the heavy rain experienced on Monday, we elected to play a 5-3-2. We had to avoid the middle of the pitch due to standing water and mud, causing the ball to get stuck whenever trying to pass or dribble through that area. 

Using Max and Eddys pace we were able to utilise long balls to avoid the middle of the pitch and use the width. 

Our first goal came in the 6th minute when Niko picked the ball up 25 yards from the goal before hitting a low driven shot straight into the bottom right corner. 

The second goal came from Fran winning a free kick 30 yards out. Eddie took the shot aiming for the back post and despite the goalkeeper getting a hand to the shot, he was unable to stop it.

The third goal came from brilliant skill on the wing from Eddie before cutting the ball in and striking it very well into the far post side netting.

The fourth goal came when Nico received the ball 35 yards away and took a shot, helped by a deflection the ball looped over the keeper and into the goal.

During the first half we effectively neutralised any attacking threats from the opposition, we didn’t concede a shot on target during the first half.

We started the second half strong however didn’t create any real chances until the 37th minute where max receives the ball as gets past a couple players before releasing the ball to our RB Tomas who put in a brilliant ball for Nico to run in on and slot away.

Our Sixth came from a set piece routine that we had worked hard on during training. Nico crossed the ball in before a couple of deflections of the opposition inadvertently put the ball into their own net.

Throughout the game we only conceded one shot on target and dominated the game, adapting well to the conditions at hand and making the most of opportunities.
