U14 Purple 24/25 - Stevenage Starlets
GOG U13s vs Stevenage
With no game in three weeks, it was good to see the girls able to get out there again, especially as a win or draw and we would be crowned Champions!!
With certain preparations during the week and a strong team talk before the game, we knew what we had to do. We started ok, but in the final third, we couldn't get the right pass or shot. Stevenage outlet was their one girl who would score and create all their chances in previous games. At first, she got away and went through to put them ahead. That was a little wake-up call and we had to dig deep to try and get level before halftime. We controlled the tempo after that goal and was dominant throughout having corners nonstop. With one of the corners, Mariah floats one in and with a little scramble in the box the ball hits Sofia's back and hits the back of the net. 1-1
Just what we wanted and needed before halftime.
With us getting into scraps in the first half and not playing the way we usually do we knew we needed all the girls to run their hearts out and win every challenge going into the second half.
The second half starts great for us, controlling the ball better and hitting the wings for the wingers to run in behind. With nearly twenty minutes gone, Lana played in a ball to the middle and it set up nicely for Antonia to hit and she sure did hit it!! Back of the net to give us the lead. So happy for her as she was desperate to get her first goal of the season, and what a way to get it. From then we were on attack after attack. Mariah who was suffering from a little cough before the game, went on a mazy around the midfield and defence to slot in her first. 3-1
The passing was phenomenal and the energy was fantastic to see from all the girls. Mariah was played through on the left by Seraphina and she cut in to bang in her second goal off the crossbar 4-1. With it being at least a few minutes after that goal, Jess plays Mariah again and she kills the ball and unleashes a rocket into the back of the net to get her hat-trick. 5-1
With each girl hungry for more goals Mariah has another shot, the keeper saves it but the ball lands to Lily J's feet and she makes it 6-1. With changes at plenty throughout the whole team and girls playing in different positions so we could all enjoy the last few minutes we switched off for a little second and they got their second of the game. It wasn't too bad as we knew what was coming in the next couple of minutes.
When that final whistle went, each girl on the pitch and the substitutes all ran over to each other in the centre to celebrate. That was one of the best things to see all the girls celebrating as a team.
With that all being said, Jay and I would like to congratulate all the girls for their hard effort throughout the whole season and to be crowned champions with two games remaining is an amazing job. Thank you to the parents for bringing the girls week in and week out to play football, we all know we could be relaxing on a Saturday morning but the effort you also bring is undeniable❤️
