U11 Comets - Virginia water Foxes
V.water Foxes vs Woking Cougars Comets . The first ever game for Woking cougars Comets was played away to Virginia Water Foxes in heat that left you wanting a nice cold beverage and an ice cream to cool you down.
We had a team made up of 4 Cougars players from last season and 5 players that are new to the team/ first football team. Having only a couple of training sessions with their new team mates and still getting to grips with each players playing style and ability this game was more a case of the players getting out there and jumping straight in at the deep end.
We started players in a position we felt we saw a strength from the training session on Friday and worked that around during the course of the match.
We started off well but with in the first quarter we conceded our first goal .
No heads dropped and no one to blame the Comets continued to battle up and down the pitch . The second quarter continued where we left off , up and down the pitch defending and attacking with some good chances created by our team. The team was getting used to the game and working well as a team all supporting each other with some great saves from Dylan our goal keeper.
We also had our defensive trio of Henry , Will and Fizaan who took turns in defence and played together very well and like they had been in a team together for many years. There was opportunities for us as we had Fletcher and Josh running down the wing with some excellent support from our midfield players.
By the 3rd quarter we started to slow down with tired legs and the hot and humid temperatures did not do us any help either.
With our midfield of Thomas and Zaeem aided with support of Alex we had several chances to run at goal and get a few shots in but these where either stopped by the Foxes or just going wide.
We then unfortunately conceded 2 more goals .
With another change about at the final break saw Dylan have a break from goal and switch with Will - who stopped a good shot on target.
At this point of the game with us losing 3-0 and battling against the heat and tiring legs every player continued on and there was more chances created as we was getting closer and closer to scoring that first Comets goal but unfortunately it’s yet to come.
Finals results VW-3-0-Comets
Our player of the match award went to Alex for his non stop running and determination .
Although it’s a loss it’s still good to get the players out there and have their first game where a lot was learnt and they know what to expect going forward with the rest of the season.
