Kites W10 Ladies Softball - Portsmouth & Southsea W10
It was a great team performance today. We batted first and got to a 289 total, gradually pushing the score on throughout the innings. We only had one over that had a negative score, and that was just by one run. Special mention to Amanda, who had our highest nett batting score of 19 not out. When we fielded, we had a bit of a squeaky bum moment when P&S ended their 2nd over with a score of 235. At that stage, P&S were 25 runs up on the equivalent Kites’ score after 2 overs! What’s becoming a Kites’ trademark of tight bowling (including a wicket maiden from Ray) and strong fielding including some great catches brought the match back into Kites control. After 9 overs P&S were on 256, which was 1 run up on the Kites score at that point (255 after 9 overs), so it was a bit “interesting” to say the least! Ray, Andrea and Lydia bowled the last 3 overs, in which P&S were constrained to adding only another 9 runs, ending on 265, 24 runs short of the Kites total of 289. Two out of two wins for the Kites puts them in a great position in the league. Unfortunately the league fixture scheduling has resulted in a large gap before our next match, with no league match for the Kites until 2nd March, but that gives everyone time to heal from the bruises and sprains gained today!
