U15 Yellows - Pro Elite
Our first win of the season and well deserved, too.
We started the game with a positive mind set taken from our second half performance against Yorkshire Elite, last week. We also took into the game some aspects of our training that we've been doing over previous weeks which, was ensuring that we get the basics right.
From the first whistle, we looked confident and although a little frantic at times, our energy was much better, arguably the best since the season started. Looking to dominate the ball, the game plan was to be aggressive in 1v1 and ensure we backed our teammates up in these situations, creating a 2v1 as often as possible.
We got in behind several times as per our training and the lads were encouraged to take their first touch directly into the box, stepping across defenders and inviting a foul or creating a goal scoring chance. This proved successful with Seb doing just this and winning a penalty which, the execution of the penalty from Taha, was nothing short of world class.
We had several more chances through the first half, hitting the post and shooting off target but because we didn't take these chances, it caused a nervy period of play for 10 minutes up to the break.
Into the second half, we defended extremely well when they got into our defensive third and it was the best we've defended thus far, winning 1v1 and timing our challenges to perfection.
The team grew in confidence and with 20 to go, we pushed hard for another goal, pretty much camping in their half. The pressure paid off with Sammy assisting Taha with his second after some determined work down the right, cutting into the box at the bi line and playing a ball into the 'cage' for Taha to slot home.
Tails up, we dominated in the final third and Lucas found Igor in the box, slipping a sublime pass into the path of Igor who finished across the keeper into the far corner.
The win was nothing short of what the lads deserved for their hard work and increased energy. Getting the basics right is massive for the teams progression and success which, we will continue to work on over the coming weeks.
Several stand out performances today, compared to our previous games and that is superb to see.
Well done team, top performance and very much deserved.
