We kicked off the season with a thrilling 4-3 victory against 780, showcasing the UFCA philosophy in our build-up play. It was a very promising start for this group, and the signs of progress were evident from the outset.
We took the lead thanks to an outstanding piece of individual quality from Aaron, who beat his marker and curled a beautiful shot around the goalkeeper. However, we allowed 780 back into the match after Rocco misplayed a pass which fell to their striker. Fair play to Rocco, though; he stepped up and made some crucial saves to keep us in the game after that setback. Nice one Rocco!
Despite enjoying better possession overall, the match was fairly nip and tuck throughout. Both teams had their moments, and we found ourselves trailing 3-2 at one point. The lads showed great resilience, coming back to equalise and then push for the win, even hitting the woodwork twice in the process. The final goal was in my opinion a well-deserved one through the sheer desire to go and win the game.
I can't promise every game will be like that this season.
One area for improvement would be our defending in the final third. We were a bit too passive at times, allowing 780 too many opportunities to shoot. However, this was a great start to the season, and I’m proud of how the lads fought until the end to secure the win.
