Girls U14's - Coventry City Reds
In the top of the table clash, the U13s lost their unbeaten record in a 3-0 defeat to a talented and well coached Coventry City team.
Whilst Coventry had a lot of the ball in the 1st half, they never really created much, with Xanthe marshalling the defence well yet again, and when we did get hold of the ball looked dangerous on the break with Bethan using her skills and pace to get past defenders, on another day those half chances may have gone in.
We went in at half time 0-0.
We spoke to the girls to tell them if they could step it up a little bit more the game was there to win.
Unfortunately Coventry must have had a similar team talk and came out in the 2nd half with all guns blazing, taking the lead a minute into the half with a strike from the edge of the area. They scored 2 more quick goals midway through the 2nd half to kill the game off and in truth we never caused them any real problems other than the odd corner and small half chances from long range, we couldn’t get any passing going and were 2nd to most balls.
Ultimately the girls had a slight off day in all areas, against a team you can’t afford to do so, but full credit to Coventry, simply the better team. These girls will most definitely bounce back however!
