U11 Yellows vs Pannal Sports
U11 Yellows 0 v Pannal Sports 8
Played a very good team today, who clearly play together week in week out.
Still, on another day, I think our boys could be a match for them, and for two periods of this game I thought we were.
Whilst they were good, I think we made them look better by giving them the ball back on too many occasions, when really we should have retained possession – either holding on to it too long, not finding a yellow shirt or not executing the pass with quality.
Mostly they were very clinical in front of goal, scoring 4 each, in quarters 1 and 4. The lad with the long hair was the standout player for me and one of the clinical ones – the goal that he curled in off the bar in the last quarter was impressive.
However, very happy with our reaction in quarters 2 and 3, where we kept a clean sheet and looked more threatening going forward.
Big shout out to James who pulled off some brilliant saves throughout – Yes I know, Roy Keane would say he’s simply ‘doing his job’. But the 4 quick succession of wonder saves he made, and his calmness on the ball, playing out when under pressure from at least two Pannal players in our box – deserve recognition.
So, today brings a close to the preliminary JPL games. Soon we will be seeded into a league of teams apparently at or around our level – watch out for those appearing in your SportsMember calendar soon.
Hats off to all the boys. Their attitude so far has been superb.
These ‘non-competitive’ games and training have given me a great opportunity to get to know the boys better, understand how they play and for some, how they handle playing in different positions that they may not normally play in for their grassroot clubs.
Thank you for your support today, and remember to ask your lad for his player of the match and vote. :)
