Boys U11 Spitfires - Inter Coventry
We welcomed Inter Coventry to Napton Road for this mornings match, which was an early KO at 9:30am… something we normally struggle with.
Today however, the boys turned up and were raring to go! This was evident after just one minute. Byron received the ball on the edge of the box where he was initially tackled… however he managed to slide in on the loose ball, knocking it into the path of Josh, who took aim and slammed the ball home ⚽️
4 minutes saw Rory flying down the flank with the ball, before crossing to perfection, where it met the foot of Byron for a volley into the roof of the net ⚽️
7 minutes in and a rushed clearance from our opponent - following a Spitfire high press - saw the balls descent into the middle third of the pitch. Rory kept his eye on the ball and had clearly picked his spot as he side foot half volleyed the ball over the keeper ⚽️
Next up Byron grabbed another. This time from some fine work from Seb, who could easily have had an attempt at goal, but unselfishly crossed into the mixer ⚽️
Byron then turned provider as he crossed from the right. Ben made a perfect run into the box and made great contact with his head to bullet header the ball passed the keeper ⚽️
High pressing has been the recent theme of training, and the next goal came from that. Passing lanes were closed down and Byron pressed the player on the ball. Some good timely decision making saw him intercept the ball, before placing his shot into the net ⚽️
Seb added another assist to help Josh add another goal, as the two combined superbly with some ‘wall passes’ to add to the Stockton tally ⚽️ Half time and time to catch some breath. Keep it up boys!
Byron grabbed another 5 minutes into the second half, as more great work from Seb, saw him play the ball into the feet of Byron who hit the ball first time past the keeper ⚽️
Inter Coventry chalked a goal after some nice direct, counter-attacking football caught us dozing. Not rattled, our next a goal came soon after, from a free-kick after Rory was brought down. Rory stepped up and intelligently - more so than the coaches who were screaming short - crossed the ball to the far post with pin point accuracy for Josh to bang another header into the goal ⚽️
Byron grabbed another goal having won the ball on the edge of the area, before dropping a shoulder to buy the time to curl it into the goal ⚽️
He grabbed another one a minute later after some phenomenal running, trickery and outside of the boot passing from Archie who played Byron through on goal ⚽️
Archie provided another assist on 42 minutes to find Rory. Rory grabbed his second of the game with a neat finish from close range, whilst under pressure from the defence and keeper ⚽️
And the final action came 5 minutes from time. Rory took control of the ball on the left wing and - with plenty of time - he lifted his head to spot a passing channel through to Byron on the right. The ball again came across with pin-point accuracy, Byron used the space he found himself in to great affect as he charged towards the goal ⚽️
Well well well. Out of Possession training is clearly helping the boys to make decisions on their positioning and movement amongst other things. Confidence is high and team spirit seems higher than ever right now. One more session on Out Of Possession before we move to the boys favourite; In Possession: Attacking play! If it’s as successful as the last 3 weeks have been… 🤯
Josh took Parents Player today for defensive covering play - plus a cheeky hat-trick. Byron took Coaches player - with a special mention to Seb who was outstanding - for all around play and motivational encouragement throughout - plus a few goals too…
