Boys U11 Spitfires - Coventry Phoenix Blaze

This weekends fixture saw us return to league action for the first time since the opening weekend of the season against Coventry Phoenix Blaze.

Due to half term we found ourselves with limited numbers, which from a coaches perspective is usually a concern; from the boys perspective they get a full game! 😂 Fortunately we had a team that picked itself this week 😜 and also a group who fitted into a formation that lent itself to their strengths.

A reiteration to let the ball do the work; share it with their teammates, before finding space to allow their teammates to let them have the ball back… and the game was underway.

A dominant first 25 should have seen us out-of-sight - shot after shot and some great possession football - but for some worldly saves from a keeper in fine form. No goals and evens at half-time. 

The coaching team instructions were easy; “You’re doing amazing boys. Keep doing what you’re doing! It will come!!”

10 minutes into the second half and it did come. A third successive corner fell to the feet of Josh, who swung an instinctive boot at the ball, which found the bottom of the net ⚽️

The boys wrapped up the game 8 minutes later. Another corner - this time to the opposition - that bounced around our goal area before being brought down by Byron. He made a quick break away from goal before unleashing a galloping Rory who received the ball at full speed on the half way line… he carried the ball into the opposition area, opened up his body, and planted the ball into the far corner ⚽️

Great game. Great team performance and plenty of smiles! Hopefully we can carry this kind of performance forward into the league now. No ‘Player of the Match’ today; they all deserved it for playing their part superbly well 👏🏼💪🏼 Well done Spitfires 🔴⚫️
