Boys U11 Spitfires - Southam Utd

It was a strange feeling driving down Lark Road for today’s fixture this morning, as we returned to the ground and the club we know so well. It was also great to see Amanda & Tim again, with the aforementioned taking control of the game with a whistle in hand.
Most of the players on both teams know each other well as they are all school mates - or also train with us in some cases - and that was evident in the early exchanges, which looked nervy at times.
Stockton did break the deadlock after 10 minutes, and the game became more relaxed from the Spitfires point of view from that point, as they settled down and played football rather than trying to score individual goals.
The biggest cheer of the day came as Oliver returned to the field 10 minutes from half-time, having been absent for nearly a month with illness. It was great to see him back looking so well again, and he didn’t look out of place at all as he slipped straight back into the team where he left off with some great interceptions 👌🏼
Southam are a relatively new team, but they have a really exciting future as a team as they played some really good football at times. Well done Southam, good luck for the rest of the season, and we look forward to playing you one day in the future 🙌🏼
Some great performances from all of the Spitfires today too, and although both the parents and coaches did choose a player to take the awards home, the truth is they all deserved it for their attitude and application of tactics. ‘Penetration’ and ‘Midfield rotation’ have been the key focus of training for the past couple of weeks… and they did both to perfection today! 🙌🏼
