18's Girls - Cambuslang

Oban girls hosted Cambuslang in the first home game of the season in the national 1 competition. 
this is a big step up for the girls and the first time Oban Lorne have had an u18 girls team play in national leagues. 

the game started very even with pitch conditions limiting the opportunity for fast flowing rugby. 
after many scrums and loose play it was Cambuslang who broke the deadlock and stretched Oban to score in the corner. 

Oban hit back and it was centre Gemma Cameron who was finding the spaces and making the yards; she was caught and tackled short but Anna Logan was on hand as ever to cross the line and the extras were added to give Oban a slender lead. 
Cambuslang used their strong runners to punch holes in the Oban defence and they crossed the line two more times in the first half. 
Oban rallied and applied really good pressure in defence which led to mistakes and turnovers; Gemma Cameron again with a break and Cairistiona Mcaloon was on hand this time to cross from short distance and score. Mcaloon also added the extras and it was 12-15 at the half time. 

The second half proved difficult for the Oban side and a few knocks were taken and some tired bodies left gaps. Straight from the kick off Cambuslang ran hard and were rewarded with an early try, 12-20. 
Oban still kept the pressure on and were rewarded when Cameron crossed the line and now it was a tight game 17-24. 
Oban lost rowan Gemmell with a twisted ankle and this shuffle took some adjustment. The game was stable and evenly matched up until the last 5 minutes when Cambuslang exploited the wings to find space for the final two tries of the game. 
final score 17-34 to Cambuslang.
