Men's 1st XV - Dalziel
Oban Lorne returned to action at Glencruitten for their first game in four weeks after a long break over Christmas and challenging weather conditions. The home side faced Dalziel in an entertaining match that saw them come out on top with a 41-24 victory.
Oban started brightly, with Calum MacLachlan scoring the opening try after a well-timed switch pass from scrumhalf Vas Borizov. Blair MacFarlane converted to give Oban a 7-0 lead. Dalziel quickly responded to level the score at 7-7.
Oban regained the lead through a try from Blair MacFarlane, but Dalziel showed their determination by hitting back to move ahead 12-14. Another try from MacLachlan put Oban back in front at 19-14 as the first half came to a close. While Oban led, the first half featured moments of frantic play, and the team spoke at halftime about calming down, staying positive, and enjoying their rugby.
The second half saw Oban play with more composure and intent. Lorne Sinclair opened the scoring after the restart, extending the lead to 26-17. Dalziel were soon reduced to 14 players following a yellow card for offside during sustained Oban pressure. Oban took full advantage, with captain Jamie Bate crossing the line to make it 31-17.
The home side continued their dominance with a well-worked try from home debutant Harvey Fergusson, bringing the score to 36-17.
Dalziel refused to give in, showing their experience and structure to score another try, narrowing the gap to 36-24. Shortly after, Oban were reduced to 14 players due to a yellow card for repeated high tackles, adding pressure to the final stages of the match.
Despite the setback, Oban finished strongly. In the final minutes, Iwan Roberts scored in the corner to seal the win at 41-24, capping off a positive performance for the home side.
