U14 Colts - Baildon Dynamos
We started strong, so did they. Playing second in the league, both teams had all to play for. Baildon Dynamos fresh from a promotion and ridding high after two consecutive win, came in to the match oozing in confidence.
In the first half, we dominated possession, though our defense took some time to find its rhythm. A misplaced pass put us in a tough spot against their dangerous number 9, but Jack's calm and perfectly timed slide tackle slowed the play, allowing JJ to step in with a clean challenge and regain control.
The opposition relied heavily on through balls to their number 9, often catching us on the counterattack and bypassing our midfield. It was from one of these moments that we conceded our first goal of the season.
Colts heads did not go down, the intensity of the game only increased and with 3 game changers still sat in the bench.
Lucas set up Rhys, who fired a shot that seemed to hang in the air before striking the top right corner of the post. A collective “Uhhhh” echoed around the pitch.
30’ Tom subbed in to the match pushing Joe in to the left wing. It didn’t take long for Joe to slip an inside pass to Lucas, two touches then BANG 💥 ⚽️. Lucas unleashing a perfect strike in top bins from the middle of the half way line. The Baildon keeper, who had been pulling off impressive saves, could do nothing to stop this one. 1-1 at halftime.
The halftime message was clear: "Keep doing what you're doing!"
Second half starts and Colts continue to boss possession. We created numerous chances, with the opposing keeper making more stunning saves, while some shots went wide. The opposition's long balls were dealt with by our defense, though they occasionally looked rattled. Cries for composure from the coach and players helped calm things down, allowing us to find space and play with more control. That was well demonstrated by Duanes completely bossing the cdm position and giving the right angles for out balls needed by defence when the pressure was on.
53’ a long ball from their keeper deflected off Ollie and fell to Lucas, who quickly found George. From just outside the box, George struck it sweetly into the net. Goal ⚽️ 2-1
60’ Rhys that’s is having a great start of season, throws in to Tom that chips the keeper with his studs. Goal ⚽️ 3-1
Rhys was subbed off to a round of applause from his teammates. 👏
63’ opposition pressing high forces Oscar to recycle the ball to JJ, who expertly picked out Lucas on the left wing. Lucas sprinted down the field, leaving defenders behind. One-on-one with the keeper, he kept his composure and slotted it home. Goal ⚽️ 4-1
67’ Joe was back on the left and doing what he does best—spotting an opportunity, pressing hard, and stealing the ball from their right back. He laid it off to Tom, who finished the move and made sure Joe’s effort didn’t go to waste. Goal ⚽️ 5-1
With Lucas now on the bench, confident he had scored the best goal of the game, George had other ideas.
68’ With a perfect through ball from Tom George gets there before the keeper and coolly chips the ball over the keeper. You could almost hear the sound of jaws dropping. Goal ⚽️ 6-1
Another amazing performance all around, showing resilience and adaptability from all players. I don’t think the opposition got a shot in the second half.
All players been working so hard at training, they have been kind to each other and extremely supportive.
Final whistle. 6-1 win
