U11 Cougars - Barnes eagles
Cougars U9s returned to football with a bang.
Last season complacency got the better of us when we played Barnes Eagles at the home of football - Benner Lane. The boys wanted to put that right, and they certainly did that.
Supporters POTM was Harvey, who terrorised the opposition with his direct attacks, bagging four goals in the process.
Jude - who despite the scoreline did not have a quiet game! - was not caught on his heels, expertly tipping a dipping shot of the bar at full stretch. Tom, Bobs and Peanut were fantastic in defence, a solid base for us to build attacks. They were confident and patient, holding on to the ball and looking to burst into space or thread balls through the lines.
Rory and Louis were a constant thorn in the oppositions side, looking to hold the ball up and bring teammates into the attack. Between them they had a hand in five of the goals, a brilliant achievement and testament to their tireless teamwork.
We had three players making their debut, Jermaine and Theo both grabbing a goal each and Max creating two assists. Superb performances from all three of them. Theo’s set pieces were lethal, creating multiple opportunities. Max sent at least four opposition players for hot dogs.
But already a contender for moment of the season will be Jermaine’s audacious bicycle kick attempt, unfortunately going wide.
It was a fantastic team display, exactly what we needed to get off to a good start. We could not be prouder of the boys and their hard work and determination.
