League Game vs Ascot United Youth U9s (Away)

Cougars FC U9s celebrated their return to the top pot with an incredible display of resilience and desire, but were unable to leave Ascot with any points today.

Despite the result, every player can be extremely proud of themselves today. An unbelievable effort, with only 7 players in the matchday squad and GK duties being taken in turn.

Harry O captained the team today, beginning the proceedings by leading the boys in an impeccably observed minutes silence.

Peanut was also first in goal today, but unable to stop a powerful drive from close range after making a good save. The first and only goal was within in the first two minutes, and absolutely no one would have been betting on it being the only goal of the game!

Rory took the gloves for the second quarter and was strong at the back, going full sweeper keeper! Cougars grew more in to the game and had some lovely passing moves and some fantastic combination play fresh off Fridays training ground. Highlight of the second quarter was Tom expertly cushioning a high ball with ease - followed by a round of applause from both sets of supporters. Harvey had to sit out half of the second quarter with an injury which meant Cougars had to dig in with only six players.. luckily he was fine and returned at the back to make some excellent blocks.

Half time came and Cougars regrouped. Some positional changes saw Jay drop into the back two with Bobsy, calmly playing the ball out from the back at all opportunities.

Louis attempted to give all supporters a heart attack half way through the quarter. He had swept up a long ball but inadvertently passed it to the opposition striker on the half way line.. luckily the first time strike went just over the bar. Very well done to Louis, however, for spotting the danger early and charging off his line.

Harvey had a fantastic free kick saved on the line by the keeper, his dipping strike couldn't quite get the nick on it it needed to guide into the net.

Rory was on hand to make a stunning last ditch tackle with the striker running through. Cougars grew more and more into the game, stopping Ascot really having any more opportunities.

Bobsy took the gloves in the fourth quarter and almost started an attacking move in the most unusual way. Just as he was about to fire a long ball up the pitch he had a massive slip, the drive barely making the edge of the area.. however within a few seconds the ball was whisked from one end to the other in a lightning quick counter attack, almost creating an opportunity.

Cougars almost created chances from the corner routines but the ball just wouldn't fall. Harry O and Jay worked tirelessly in the middle to bring the wide players into the game.

Rory pulled a great chance just wide late on in the game, but the result really didn't matter. It was an absolutely amazing game of football: physical, technical and entertaining. The boys dug in and fought for each other, we could not have asked for anything more, well done lads.

Player of the Match was Tom, who's organising and positivity was the glue that helped hold everything together.

Supporters Player of the Match went to all the boys - an amazing team display.
