Stockton FC - Sunday First Team - Kineton
On an autumnal Sunday morning, Stockton lined up against Kineton with a strong squad. In a 4-5-1 formation, Gaz was in goal (not his usual position, thanks to him for doing it). Right back, Jordan, left back, Nic, the two Centre Backs, Adam (wait to hear what he did) and Danny Ward from the village both of them!!!
In midfield Josh B, Al, Johnny, Dan Whitbread and Callum. Richie our captain and lone striker. The ‘squad life’ was completed with Leon, Lewis, Travis, Manu and Zac. Early on the lads strived toward playing good football. Our one touch, two touch passing combinations becoming an ethos of how we want to enjoy ourselves. Callum, Dan, the back four, including Gaz, notable passers of the ball.
Al screening the defence and Johnny his usual combative self was doing well.
11 minutes though, Jordan goes down, was he shot? We play on, they cross and score. The medic confirms Jordan hasn’t been shot but needs replacing. Leon on.
1-0 becomes 2, penalty, handball by Danny. Gaz no chance to save. Then turning point of game for me. On 25 minutes we have a corner, cross from Callum to Johnny, before Johnny could strike, he’s bundled over, obvious penalty to us (confirmed by their keeper) NOT GIVEN!
More bad luck, Al goes off replaced by Trystan, we concede a third and go in at HT 3-0 down.
2nd half we look for positives, Richie putting in tackles and setting a tone, Trystan getting on the ball, Josh riled by their fullback wanting to do the same.
Sadly 4-0 is upon us on 55 minutes. Johnny replaced by Manu. With half an hour to go they go up by 5!!!
Richie comes off and his replacement Zac sets up Josh for his 1st goal for the club, a great strike beyond their keeper. Positive!
Leon is injured. Good shift from him…Lewis on. The endeavour from everyone goes up a notch sadly, they score again 6-1. The biggest positive was to come. The ever hardworking duo of Nic and Adam combined for the latter to score, great cross, great header, right on full time, Adam man of the match (loved the goal celebration). 6-2 we finish. We go again next week.
