Boys U11 Spitfires - Kenilworth Sporting
Today we took on a team we have never faced before - Kenilworth Sporting - as they traveled to Stockton for today’s game.
It was a great game where we mirrored the ‘Team High Press’ tactic we’ve been working on in training for the past two weeks to near perfection. This allowed us to relax a bit as the ball - when in play - was in the attacking half for large periods of the game - well done boys! 👏🏼
The deadlock was broken by Charlie, who made his official debut for Stockton today - and what a debut it was - when the ball was played out from the back to Oliver. Oliver turned his man superbly before releasing a direct driven pass into the forward run of Charlie, who picked his spot and delayed until the moment was right before hitting a shot into the top corner ⚽️
A quick counter attack caught us off guard before we took advantage once again. Seb played a wide ball out to Eddie. Eddie took his player on, and regardless of having a lot to do, he did it well, before hitting the ball into the far corner of the net ⚽️
More of the same was the half time message, and out they went to accomplish the task. First up Charlie took control of the ball in the final third and played a sublime long pass to Archie, who carried the ball forward and slid the ball underneath the keeper into the net ⚽️
The last key action came from a high press whereby all avenues were cut off for the Kenilworth defender to release the ball easily. The immediate and direct pressure came from Byron, who managed to win the ball before galloping towards goal and placing a shot into the left side of the goal ⚽️
Truth be known, the entire team deserved reward after todays performance. However, the parents vote deservedly went to Charlie for an outstanding debut, consisting of a goal and assist. The coaches also managed to finally make their decision for Player of Match, which went to Archie, but also singled out Charlie for high praise. Archie’s perseverance over the past few weeks has been deserving of a goal - and today it came - and we couldn’t be happier for him! Doesn’t he look happy 😂 Well done Spitfires!
