U12 Purples v Harlow Frontiers

Today we welcomed the Frontiers for our first match of 2024. We’ve played them twice before so we knew their style of play.

with no training since before Christmas I was expecting lots of cobwebs, but the girls suprised us all.

on kick off we pressed straight forward without any hesitation. Frontiers came at us with aggression and speed, but we were all over them being just as aggressive and our girls were more skillful, passing well and chasing after the ball.

Nine minutes in we were given a throw in and our expert taker Holly threw an amazing long ball into the box. There was a bit of tussle from the girls as the ball bounced from GOGS to Frontiers and then finally back to us where Ella tapped the ball in to score our first goal. ⚽️💜🦩

the rest of the first half saw pretty much the same thing. We had to continually rotate players as some were struggling and were out of breath, especially those on the wings, but the team worked well together and battled hard. We had our newest player Lucia on the pitch today playing centre back and she showed no fear and worked incredibly well with Isla in centre mid.

Half time the score was 1:0

team talk was to keep doing what they were doing. Frontiers were getting frustrated as they wanted a goal and we knew they were going to throw everything as us in the second half and they definitely did!!

7 minutes into the second half we scored our second goal with a fantastic through ball from Sarah on the wing to Isla in centre mid. Isla saw Katie and with another through ball, Katie ran onto it, took a lovely strong shot and hit the back of the net!! ⚽️💜

we could see the fire ignite in frontiers and we let our play slip in the second half. We wasn’t focussed as much and our passing and defence wasn’t as good as it was during the first half, but we still played well. We saw frontiers in our end of the pitch a lot more and Sophie had a lot of shots on her which saw her diving everywhere to make the saves.

frontiers then saw an opportunity to shoot from a distance. Top bins and there was just no way Sophie was going to save it! We stepped up our game taking back possession and holding on to the ball. We took shot after shot at their goal but their keeper was incredible and saved every one.

frontiers finally scored the last goal as we made some silly mistakes which left Sophie exposed, but for our first match back with no training we’re happy with a draw! 😁

I’m so proud of all the girls as they worked tirelessly and showed what they can do, even after having 3 weeks off. They were dedicated and really committed as a team.
