U9 Turquoise 24/25 - Garston Ladies Tigers
GOG U8 💜🦩💜 The 12th game of the season and we welcomed the Garston Ladies U8 Tigers this Saturday. The girls trained well during the week and we knew we were in for a difficult game this morning.
The first quarter got under way and what an electric start to the game it was! Alara, Evie, Lala and Willow were off to a lightening start with some great football. It was great to see the passing and moving worked on in training being put into practice within the game. A great run and pass from Willow to Lala almost saw us open up the scoring. Lala did well to beat her girl with her shot going just short of the post. Evie really impressed in midfield with some really good tackles and progressive attacking runs. A great interception from Evie, who did really well to keep hold of the ball in a tight situation with the opposition trying hard to get the ball from her and it almost paid off with her shot just shy of goal. The Tigers were equally trying to build on their attacks, but were cancelled out by some fantastic defending from Alara. The girls continued to push forward and a great left footed effort from Lala almost put us in front, hitting the post and going out of play.
Second quarter and we were under a lot more pressure from the Tigers attacks. Both sets of midfield were cancelling each other out and our girls were on the back foot a lot more. Alara, Ariana, Olive and Willow worked really hard throughout the quarter. Unfortunately, there was a bit of a mix up between defender and keeper, where we failed to clear our lines, presenting the ball to the Tigers who scored from close range. The girls heads didn't drop and they continued to battle for the equaliser. But our efforts didn't materialise.
Third quarter and the girls were really put to the sword. The Tigers a goal ahead really grew in confidence. Evie, Eden, Lala and Olive continued to fight for the equaliser. Some good closing down from Lala, Evie and Olive nearly paid off. We were just unable to make anything from our corners. Unfortunately for us we got caught out on the break with the Tigers getting their second of the game. Soon after we were working the ball out from the back and got caught out again with the Tigers getting their third of the game. The girls continued to hold out until the end of the quarter.
The fourth quarter and the girls were determined to get something out the game after all the great effort that was put into the past quarters. Some fantastic work between Ariana, Evie and Lala almost saw us get our deserved goal with a shot from Ariana going just wide. Olive and Willow were subbed on half way through the quarter for Evie and Lala, who both worked incredibly hard throughout the game. Finally we got our reward with a brilliant effort from Ariana who unleashed that rocket of a right foot from long range into the top left corner. It was really lovely to see the goal celebration that followed and really touching to see all the girls embrace each other together so warmly on the pitch. The goal was equally appreciated by the subs, coaches and parents on the touch line. There wasn't much time left in the quarter, but the girls made sure we finished the game on the front foot.
Despite the result the girls played like winners and it was clear for all to see the progress the girls are making. They continue to impress, putting everything they're learning into practice. During our team talk at the end, while the coaches acknowledged that all the girls were player of the match, it was really nice to see the girls all agree who the player of the match was before we had even announced it. Well done Alara, Ariana, Eden, Evie, Lala, Olive and Willow. With the new training in place we're all looking forward to seeing you continue to grow.
