U13 Turquoise 24/25 - Whetstone wanderers

today we hosted whetstone wanderers

With both teams only losing once in the league so far this season we knew it would be a tough competitive game. 

It started off pretty even with both teams trying to play a passing game. Whetstone we’re passing the ball around very well and seemed to be finding a lot of space on the pitch. We wasn’t our usual selves today and our pressing game just wasn’t how it normally is. Ellie made a couple of good early saves in the first 15 minutes keeping the scores level.

The midfield was working hard. Pixie was all over the pitch making tackles and breaking down whetstone attacks. Mia who wasn’t 100% before todays game was battling well in the middle.

Lilly-belle was was almost like a sweeper today clearing everything that got passed the defense and had a very solid game. 

Whetstone broke down our right and we just stood back and watched their winger run with the ball! Nobody put a challenge in and her shot trickled passed Ellie and found the bottom corner! ⚽️ 0-1

at half time I told the girls they needed to be more physical and aggressive! We were giving them far too manic time with their passes and we needed to press a lot more. 

the second half kicked off and we were much better. Getting stuck into challenges and playing alot better. 10 minutes in and we had the ball on the edge of our own area but  instead of clearing it we were very sloppy with our play and gave possession away and we were punished! Their effort found the back of the net ⚽️  and we were 0-2 down! 

It was a pretty even game from there on and with nothing to lose the girls started to gain abit more confidence. Lexi beat the defender and put in a fantastic cross but the keeper managed to get a hand to it and push it away from alexia who was waiting to pounce! That gave us a lift and Mia went through and hit a long effort which just went passed the post! We were trying hard to get back into the game but they broke and the attacker managed to get the wrong side of Florence who took her down in the box and conceded a penalty. Emily was in goal but the whetstone penalty taker put it high into the corner! 0-3 

todays result was a tough one to take but we will learn from this game and the mistakes that were made. The girls know they are better than this result but we always come back stronger from these setbacks.
