U15 Colts - Leeds Jrs Madrid
Great start today from the lads they really took the game to Leeds Jrs and the ball wasn’t in our half for the first ten minutes. We had some half chances but the first goal came from Jake who was a big threat all game. Winning the ball on the left, he curled one over the keeper into the top corner. Not an easy angle and may have been a cross who knows!
We kept pushing but Leeds Jrs started to improve and scored after 20 mins with a shot that deflected off a defender as they tried to close it down and wrong footed Samuel. 1-1
You could tell we had belief we were more than a match for them as we kept pushing and dominating but our next goal actually came from a counter attack. Ball came out to Rufus who found Jake and he played a lovely pass into Jacob Speight’s path as he had continued an awesome run out of defence. He took one touch and then shot across the keeper - it was a lovely goal all round. 2-1.
Next goal was all about following up on the second ball. We had a shot which was saved or blocked, we got to the next ball first and shot again, saved again. But then Tyrek blasted home from close range. great determination 3-1.
Harry Gray moved into the middle to make a midfield 3 and we held on well until half time. In fact Ralph had a golden opportunity to make it 4-1 but he shot wide from a tight angle when the spectators were certain it was going in!
Second half we said we needed to get through the first ten minutes which we did. We knew they would come out fired up and they did to be fair but we looked solid. However on one Leeds Jrs attack we failed to clear the ball and they got it back to 3-2. But when we could have capitulated we scored again and the boys kept believing. This time Tobi was put though and he was strong to hold off the defender and finish well. 4-2
Leeds Jrs scored next with about 20 mins to go. I felt we had lots of chances to clear the ball but after some hesitancy at the far post they scored. 4-3.
We were on the end of some poor decisions from the ref following that and Leeds Jrs went close from a few free kicks around the 20 yards mark and it was one of these from which they got it back to 4-4. Sam beaten after possibly being unsighted but to be fair he made many very important saves today.
4-4. Great game but felt like a defeat.
