Friendly match v Featherstone Flyers

First friendly of the 24/25 season saw a mixture of experience and youth coming together to play against fresh opponents.  The team lined up with Ange covering in goal as was a weekend where Amy wasn't in the country! Dix started at right back, Megan debuting at left back, and Rachel as centre half. In midfield KPL playing CDM, Jenni on the right wing, Kate G on the left wing and Steph pressing, with Sian up front. Sian and Steph switched roles throughout the match and linked up effortlessly.

Featherstone started well and had the better of the first ten minutes but the Maggie's found their form and quickly got into the game and took control. leading to the first goal which was fantastic link up from SaS with Sian playing the ball into Steph's path for her to find the back of the net. 1-0 Maggies.

A second goal quickly followed with a shot on target from Megan being denied any opportunity as the Featherstone full back clearly stop the ball from progressing with her hands and a penalty awarded.  After a short conversation with teammates Sian stepped up and slotted home. 2-0 maggies.

After 15 mins at 2-0 Ruby, making her debut, replaced Kate G on the left wing and Kirsty replaced KPL at CDM. Both involved in the action straight away. However Megan was the busiest player on the pitch during this time as the majority of attacking from Featherstone came down their right hand side.

Featherstone went on the attack again and managed to unleash a shot from outside the box which was tipped onto the crossbar from Ange and recovered well to keep the clean sheet.

A third goal followed with a great effort from Jenni taking possession from the opposition defender and finding the back of the net. Half time leering and Sian getting her well deserved 2nd with a reverse link up and Steph being provider on the occasion.  4-0 Maggies

Half Time

Substitutions - Rabs on for Ange in goal, KPL on for Megan at left back, Kate G on for Jenni at left wing and Lauren on for Dix at right back.

All the subs made a fantastic impact on the match and the young stars in Lauren and Ruby linking up well and both having a fantastic match. Rabs mirrored the first half and played her part to keep a clean sheet.

At 45 mins time to make the final changes with the super SaS making way for Megan & Jenni and Rachael allowing Dix to make her centre half debut. The final goal came from a shot from Jenni, which Ruby was ready to follow through if required. 5-0 maggies and a fantastic performance from all involved.

(to help our memory from when we say have we played them - they played in Purple, it was a long drive, their manger shouted a lot, Kirsty hurt her toe, KPL hurt her back and Jenni bounced half way across the pitch from a thundering shoulder barge)

Steph was voted MoM by her teammates (Lauren & Ruby were excluded but would have won) with Megan in 2nd place.
