Girls U11's Wildcats - Hollyfields
Stockton Wildcats played at ‘home’ to Hollyfields in sunny Sutton Coldfield this morning. Big thanks to Hollyfields for arranging the 4g pitch and to the parents for making the journey. Both teams were eager to play after lots of recent postponements.
It was a tight and scrappy game throughout but both teams created some key chances. The two goalkeepers the stars of the show. 🌟
Stockton had the better chances in the first half.
Maisie’s ball across the face of goal almost fell to Lily-Rae before Rosie was later put through on goal from a great forward pass from Tilly. One on one with the keeper, the keeper saved well.
A free kick from Lily-Rae wiped out one of the Hollyfields players who blocked the shot bravely. Video evidence suggests the player was probably too close to freekick taker.
The keeper saved Emily’s shot from the edge of the box and shortly afterwards Emily shot early with a brilliant effort from long range that the keeper fumbled.. the ball fell to Lily-Rae right in front of goal, it looked a certain goal but the shot somehow went high over the bar. ✈️
Stat alert! 🚨 - We’ve conceded in the 23rd minute in each of the last 3 matches and it happened again today!! 🫣
Hollyfields no.9 scoring the only goal of the game, an unstoppable finish into the top corner from just inside the box.
We huffed and puffed in the second half trying to get level. It remained scrappy but it was Hollyfields who had the better chances. They hit the post before Emilie-Rose made a good save.
We gave it everything towards the end and as we pushed players forward we were very nearly caught out but Emilie-Rose produced another awesome save 🧤 from a powerful shot to keep it at 1-0 - a save that won both player of the match and parents player of the match awards.
Not our day today but great to play a match and a good natured competitive match at that.
