U13 Turquoise 24/25 - Berkhampsted raiders
today we went to Berkhampsted which was abit of a drive and in terrible conditions! we started off the game slow. The pitch wasn’t the greatest and the weather was atrocious! But we managed to get into our stride after the first 10 minutes. Alexia found Lexi who hit a long distance effort and the keeper could only parry it into the net! ⚽️ 0-1
That seemed to get us going and some lovely play down the right and Lexi replayed the favour by finding alexia at the back post with a great ball for our second! ⚽️ 0-2
5 minutes later we got a penalty for handball. I didn’t see it so couldn’t comment on if it was or not? Alexia stepped up and slotted it home for her second and our third! ⚽️ 0-3
Half time
I told the girls at half time to continue playing football how we were using the wings and spreading play. And stretching our opponents. the second half started and Berkhampsted were all over us! We couldn’t keep the ball and had lost all the momentum we gained in the first half. It was a very physical game with both teams making tackles and trying to play nice football. Eventually they broke down the right after we
Lost the ball and we just watched as they crossed it into the box and finished off a nicely worked goal! ⚽️ 1-3
They had found they’re confidence through that goal and kept pressing us. They got a penalty for a very soft foul that I thought we won the ball fairly! The opposition player didn’t even go down it was that soft! Liz stood tall In goal and made a great save with her feet and also clearing the ball in the process 👏🏼
Again we tried to attack but they got the ball and won a corner. From that corner they got another penalty for handball! I contested it to the ref which I shouldn’t have as he had made his decision and wasn’t going to change his mind. It was deemed to be aggressive by the opposing parents so probably complaints incoming!! anyway they stepped up and Liz’s heroics from the previous one had got to them as they put it wide! 👍🏻
With 10 minutes to go we played some nice football in the middle and Lexi got it out wide and found Ellie who produced a great finish from a very tight angle! ⚽️ 1-4
all in all today was another good win and 3 points. We rode our luck at times but we dug in and got the result we wanted. Credit to Berkhampsted though as they made us work for it!
I did speak to the ref after the game and apologized for my outburst! And told him he actually had a very good game.
We shook hands and all was fine.
I very rarely question the refs decision but my emotions got the better of me today. We are only humans after all and sometimes these things happen.
We go again next week 🦩
