U11 Comets - Twickenham tigers

A pitch condition that resembled the hills of the Peak District it had more bumps than a nobbly bobbly . 

With us missing two players, who just happen to be our two key goal keepers this season, 

we changed things around this week and started with 3 defenders and 3 midfielders ( who also had the freedom to attack and leaving us with 3 players to dominate the defence). 

With this change around it didn’t seem to take them too long to get used to the new formation . 

It wasn’t long before our first attack went out for a corner . With Alex to take the corner and passing to Josh to pass back to Alex who crossed the ball across the box but the bounce on the uneven pitch confuses our players and goes out for a goal kick . 

With twickenham on the counter attack our starting defence of Henry , Luca and Josh put an end to any attack they could think of leaving Fizaan ( who had a short stint in a previous game in goal and had kindly put the gloves on for this game ) with very little to do in the first 2 quarters . 

A throw in from Josh was then kicked upfield leaving Fletcher and one of their defenders chasing the ball towards goal with fletch battling the defender to get there first to tap the ball past the goal keeper . 

However the goal was disallowed due to slight push on the defender when battling to get the ball. We felt this was a bit harsh considering on the pitch this was the way Twickenham started and it continued for the rest of the game, with no consequences for them.

Josh with excellent defending stopping several chances and with a big kick the ball up field towards Fletcher on the right who in turn try’s a power cross but unfortunately it goes out of play. 

2quarter - same as the first quarter Comets were by far the better team but just couldn’t get the ball in the back of the net with pitch conditions I’m sure not helping things. 

A Free kick was won on the outside of their box and taken by Fletcher across the box to Josh who connected with the ball brilliantly but unluckily it hit the wrong side of the net. 

We soon won another corner and it was Josh’s turn to take corners and he picked out Henry waiting in the box but the defence blocked Henrys shot and rolling out for another corner which was then caught by their keeper. 

3quarter - Twickenham woke up this quarter and looked the better team with several quick players keen to get the first goal . With a great shot from Twickenham we were lucky it hit the cross bar and not the back of the net with it rebounding off Fizaan in goal to deny them from scoring.  

4quarter -

It wasn’t long before again we was on the counter attack with their player giving away a free kick for a pulling down of one of our players . Of course Alex stood in front of the ball to take it and soon after he kicked it a handball from their defensive wall gave us another free kick in a similar area leaving Alex to take again . With perfect accuracy the ball went from Alex’s foot to the back of the net giving us the advantage. 1-0 

With legs seeming to tire with no substitutions a quick equaliser from Twickenham was soon to come with a mix up in defence and confusion of where the ball was, it was tapped home making it 1-1. 

But with every last bit of determination and energy the players had, we fought back to make sure that we come away with a win . We won a throw and Zaeem with a big throw to Alex who in turn crosses to Fletcher who shoots on goal to put us ahead just before the final whistle . 2-1 

Player of the match this week was tough to decide with all 8 players putting in one big final performance before the Xmas break it was decided to award every player this week .
