U11 Comets - Hersham fc

Todays away game took us to Hersham FC where we previously lost 3-1 back in December. With Hersham currently being unbeaten all season we knew it would be a tough game to go there and try and come away with the win . 

But the boys put on a show in the first quarter that was one to remember! 

1q Hersham started and with in minutes we soon took the upper hand possession wise and looked to take an early lead with 

Henry taking a throw to josh who takes a shot first time but goes out for a goal kick . 

Dylan’s goal kick taken short to Luca who passes it through to Fletcher who in turn passes over to Josh and back to Alex on the right with his short run and fires the ball into the back of the net 1-0 . 

Hersham are quick to attack us and get through our defence and are now 1 on 1 with Dylan in goal but he comes sliding out to kick it out of play .

Hersham eventually win a corner from the throw but Dylan grabs the ball mid air and holds on to it tightly. 

Goal kick from Dylan taken short to Henry who takes a long pass down the pitch past two hersham players where Zaeem  had run past to take the ball and takes a shot past the goal keeper making it 2-0 . 

Another throw for the Comets but a hersham player gets their head on it and headers it to Josh in the middle of the pitch who chips it to Fletcher on to goal but a Hersham player sticks in his own net before Fletcher could get a foot to it making it 3-0 .

We held onto the lead in this quarter but hersham looked ready to fight back with their number 10 looking quick with the ball. 

Luca with his famous big kick clearance up the pitch to Alex who shoots but deflects for a corner , hersham clearance and a quick attack leads to Dylan saving the ball from the back of the net and pushing it out for a corner. 

Corner to hersham lands in the middle of our box to an unmarked player who puts in the net 3-1 . 

Dylan making great saves over the first half keeping us from conceding the chances made by Hersham .

Possession wise Comets now have the upper hand and seem to be back in control of the game. 

Luca and Henry working well to stop hersham attacks towards our goal . 

Josh and fletch pressing quickly and putting  pressure on their defence but unable to get the ball to get to the back of the net. Will and Thomas now in midfield supporting and putting pressure on Hersham players when they had the ball. A hersham chance on goal left Dylan leaping high in the air to grab the ball but it just slips through his hands and down on the floor towards the oppositions striker , but quick thinking from Dylan and he dives down to punch the ball out for a corner. 

4q Dylan now wanting to play the full game in goal instead of wanting to play the right wing meant we opted to go for a 

3-3 formation to give us an extra player in defence , our defence now was Henry, Will and Josh in left back who would switch with Fletcher on the right wing mid quarter.  With Zaeem, Alex and Fletcher in midfield. 

Hershams corner leads to a shot on goal with the ball bouncing on the line leaving Fletch and Dylan working to stop it going in and a goal line clearance from Fletcher . This then leads to Zaeem going on a solo run to chase the ball with two defenders on his tail , but his shot from outside the box was saved but the keeper. Hersham now running towards our goal leaves Fletcher to follow their winger and slide tackle to put the ball out for a corner. 

Corner to hersham goes in the goal 3-2 Comets couldn’t do much with this goal as it was a good bit of play from Hersham. 

Comets now holding on for the last 5 minutes and us coaches praying we take the win , if not a draw at the very least. We subbed Luca back on for Will and Thomas back on for Alex. 

Comets giving everything they had to stop any attempt on goal and even making quick break always towards their goal but we just couldn’t get that 4th goal . 

 The ref blows the whistle and we take the win with big smiles from the players and even bigger smiles from the coaches .

POTM - if we had 9 trophy’s they would have all got it today as they played fantastically well as a team. But there was one player that put on a performance that stood out and that was Dylan in goal. Despite having two goals put past him there could have been a few more but his braveness in coming out to take the ball from Hersham players to leaping in the air to diving for the ball , a performance that would have benched most premier league keepers .
