Away game vs Guildford city

Today we travelled to Guildford where the game quickly turned into a Rocky Road for the Comets .

With our players slow to get into todays game we have seen this a few times this season and then the last 3/4s of the game they turn it around and have a great game.

Guildford city soon won a corner but the shot from the cross went wide of our goal .

Again Guildfords Cross was saved by Will but the saved shot rebounded from Fizaan and went out for a corner.

From that corner they grabbed a quick easy goal from the back post putting GC 1-0 up .

Corner again comes to back post and a mis kick away from the comets ends up at their player waiting at the back post to score 2-0

2q we turned this quarter around and started our fight back with great teamwork all over the pitch.

World class passing from our midfield trio of Alex , Fletcher and Josh ends up with allowing Josh to run through on goal but the keeper beats him to the ball.

Comets on another attack from a throw in with Fizaan in the run past some players and decided to take a shot but it was stopped by the keeper again.

GC now turning up there fouling which has started to appear towards  the end of the first quarter had resulted in Dylan getting injured and clearly in pain on the floor. With mud and marks on his face it was clear his mention of a stud to the face was evident. Dylan taken off and the ref said nothing to the other team , nor did Guildford check if Dylan was ok . Shortly after taking our free kick we were awarded, Alex was then elbowed in the back of head . I pointed out to the ref that that was the second bad foul in a matter of minutes but he was adamant that only the second one was intentional. Again nothing was said to the player or the team for this incident. And I can assure you both fouls seemed to me to be intentional and unsportsmanlike.

With Comets now giving back what they were getting we stepped up our playing ability a notch and we got to witness some brilliant football from the Comets. We started from our keeper Will and with our defence - despite being down a couple of goals - having a great game and stopping the majority of the attacks coming our way and being the solid back wall we have seen in games before, passing the ball through our midfield, working as a team to get the ball up the pitch and with

Fletcher on the run with the ball he decided to strike the ball outside the box . The ball hit the cross bar and bounces downward and there keeper picks it up . Almost like that famous 1966 goal but unfortunately this goal wasn’t given .

3q Fizaan thankfully offered to replace this halfs keeper Dylan ( who sat out the remainder of the game due to the injury ) in goal . Shortly after the kick off and GC quickly worked the ball up the pitch and a power strike ended up in the back of the net . 3-0

We again on the counter attack Alex crosses to Will who sets himself up to make it 3-1 .

Pressing play by the comets leave Alex and will battling in the box but their defence kept us from scoring .  Again we were able to counter attack and a great bicycle kick from josh on the left wing over to Alex in the center of the pitch allowed him to run at goal but unfortunately the shot went wide.

4q

A corner from GC skims Henry’s head and skims past Fizaan’s gloves to hit back of goal a lucky goal from a corner 4-1 .

With GC now putting pressure on us they were after a 5th goal but with fletch losing the ball and chasing their player down he takes a chance and slides the player to give away a free kick .

Dirty tactics seemed to be GC aim of the game and yet again Alex was taken down outside the box given him a free kick. Unfortunately he couldn’t get it past the keepers hands .

Another chance arose for us to grab a goal back and alex takes a chance again but it was saved by the keeper yet again . To be fair the keeper was having a good game and pulled some good saves that we just couldn’t seem to beat.

To sum up the game , poor referees decisions , poor footballing from GC with constant Fouls , but we got to see some of the Comets spirit unfold during the game .

Player of the match was tough to decide between a couple of players but it was decided to be given to Henry who was closing down the opposition at every chance he could.
