Important Information - Proposed Change of Legal Structure of Football Club

We have recently taken legal advice about changing the legal status of the football club and we believe that an incorporated company by guarantee would be the best way to go and then to add Community Amateur Sports Club status on top of that.

At present the club is only recognised by the bank as a Community Sports Club and other than with the FA, we are not currently formalised.

By changing the status, we believe it will help make the club look more formal, reduce litigation and risk to members/directors should there be any claim etc and also help open up more funding opportunities to allow the club to grow even further.

As our club and finances grow the CASC status will also help with tax status and also funding applications etc too.

To change the status, part of the process would be to dissolve the club as it currently stands and create the new organisation (no name change) and look to get agreement from members to transfer existing assets eg bank balance and equipment.

Our current constitution would be rewritten into an articles of association instead and to enable us to gain CASC status, we would need to tweak slightly.

The cost implication to go through this process is around £7500-£9000 with legal and solicitor fees.

As a Committee this was voted on, and the decision to proceed was unanimously agreed. We all feel that given our current financial position and the continual growth of the club, that the move to change the structure is in the long term benefit of the club and its legacy.
