Better late than never

What-ho!

Apologies – bit late this week – things got kind of overtaken by events this weekend, but hopefully you’ll forgive me…

So, we had our first committee meeting back on Monday 17th, with a rather packed agenda. Our big focus at the moment is building on our ‘offer’ – what is it that we can organise and set out for the club to do. It’s a little early to give much detail at the moment, but thinkings have included:

  • How we can set up inclusive run sessions (got an idea working up on that at the moment; hope to be able to get something up together in a couple of weeks)
  • How we can provide better benefits of membership (Darren’s drive for group membership at Fareham Leisure centre is certainly looking attractive)
  • A better, more functional website
  • More coaching opportunities
  • More social events (Anyone up for a quiz night?)

There’s a lot to do, but hopefully we can reassure you a bit that we are listening and working towards the best club that we can be!

So – Announcements

Firstly – Club Championship!

We’re designating the Holly Hill Sprint Tri as our club championship for this year. We chose this because it’s a great local event, good value and really achievable, and so, we hope, as inclusive as possible.

The event is on the 20th July (so plenty of notice to enter, and plenty of time to train if that’s your thing…) Distances are 400m pool swim, 28km bike and 6km run, so enough to be challenging, but within reach.

We’ll be doing awards for age groups, but also an inclusive ‘best performance’ award for whoever give it the most gusto.

Entries are £50 through Challenging events (www.Challenging.events)

Secondly – Transition/Bike maintenance day – 7th April – Stubbington Scout Hut

We’re combining our hoped-for transition training / bike maintenance event into one, and maybe even a group ride in the morning. We’ll be giving advice and info on what to do in transition – bike mounting/dismounting, changing, kit, how to lay out, that sort of thing. We’ll also have various stands up and running, for all your questions on route setting, Zwift, bike maintenance, changing tyres, etc. We may even have an opportunity for Pete to clear out his shed again…

Anyways – onwards and upwards.
