Our long running Easter road race festival is open to non-members and members alike and your entry fee includes breakfast at the Trophy Presentation at Saumarez Park Cafe from 08:30 after the final race on Easter Monday. It is named in memory of Club stalwart Paul who died in 2019 and, in its current guise, is run as a multi-day stage race over the whole Easter bank holiday weekend.
This year there will be both a senior and junior competition. For seniors aged 16 and above on 29th March, it will comprise of 4 stages - a crit race, new for 2024 a nocture hill climb, a road race, and finally a time trial. For juniors aged 12 and above on 29th March, it will comprise of 3 stages - a crit race, a nocture hill climb and a time trial. For juniors aged 10 and above on the 29th March, it will comprise of 2 stages - a crit race and a hill climb. This is a road bike only event - no time trial bikes or aero bars will be permitted at the time trial, or any other stage. Aero clothing (skinsuits) and aero helmets are permitted.
The overall category winners will be decided on a ‘points per stage’ basis and this year there will be prizes for each category winner. There will be a separate ladies race at the senior crit race and road race. Whilst the winners may get the headlines, the Paul Van Katwyk Trophy is awarded to the rider who has embodied the spirit of competitiveness, sportsmanship and good humour over the whole weekend so everyone has something to aim for!
